Python Liberation Front

Discussion Forum

I will find a way to do an easier feedback mechanism. I will probably put up a comments capability to this blog, and also perhaps a better dicscussion forum setup. Please stay tuned...

Announcing Python411, a New Series of Podcasts about Python, Coming Real Soon Now

I am planning a series of Python411 podcasts dedicated 100% to Python. These podcasts will be most appropriate for newcomers and learners of Python or even those who haven't yet decided which language to learn next, or first. The series should begin with episodes such as an Introduction to Python, Why Python?, Comparison of Python to other languages, Python GUI toolsets, Python for Mobile Systems, and Python IDE's.

I will also likely include a podcast or two about Firedrop and how to set it up and use it for blogging, podcasting, or as a content management tool.

As I indicated above, this series will be named "Python411" and will be completely separate from my AwareTek series of Podcasts.

New Podcasts on Religion and Intelligence, New Sony Microphone

I posted a couple more podcasts to the AwareTek page, one on "Religion" and the other on "Intelligence". I have settled on using a Sony ECM-MS907 condenser mike that cost $75 and I am quite happy with it, its 1/8 inch connector plugs into my Griffin iMic ($39) obviating the need for a pre-amp or mixer, and it sounds great! On the software side I am using GarageBand and iTunes and of course, a Mac. Oh, and next Friday, April 29, Tiger arrives! Hooray!

New Podcast and New Directions

I have posted a new podcast and it represents the last experimental podcast, now I am ready to begin. I have decided to have two series of regular podcasts: one called Python411 will be information about Python particularly suited to new learner's. The other will exercise my more creative and artistic musings about the Future, and is called called just "AwareTek".

Meanwhile, I have found Firedrop to be particularly good as a tool to help me manage my podcasts. I will post some details about this in the near future and also do a podcast or two about how to customize and use Firedrop2 for podcasting. These Firedrop audio tutorials will be in the Python411 series of podcasts.

More real soon now...

New Podcasts and other thoughts

I have posted three new podcasts to my front page. Podcasting is alot of fun. The three podcasts are sort of "about" politics, business, philosophy, culture and spirituality, with a little poetry thrown in for good measure. Really, uncategorizable ;-))

I will post more soon, including an introduction to Python for non-programmers and newbies, as well as some other Python tips and information.

I am thinking that Firedrop will also be great content management and publishing system for podcasters, as well as bloggers, and I am planning some tweaks and adjustments to the Firedrop software to customize it for managing podcast content.

The First Ever Experimental Awaretek Podcast is Now Online

OK, the title sort of tells the story. I have posted a very experimental, 9-minute-long mp3 titled "Agora" on a new front page to this web site. New podcasts will appear each week on this Awaretek front page.

The first podcast, "Agora", talks about the objectives of this new series of podcasts, but it also was a chance for me to figure out how to use the tools involved in making a podcast.

I used Apple's GarageBand program (which is incredibly powerful), and then iTunes. For hardware, I bought a $19.95 microphone from Radio Shack and plugged it into the input jack on the back of my 2.5 year old PowerMac dual 800 MHz. tower.

If anyone wants to comment on my first podcast, or discuss it in any way, please use the newly re-instituted and de-spamified Discussion Forum.

Please be gentle. Or, on second thought, fire away with all guns blazing ;-)))

Podcasts, my new iPod, and yet more Podcasts ;-)))

I only purchased my iPod two days ago, on Sunday. It feels like I've had it a year, I am enjoying it so much. Haven't listened to any music yet, I am listening to podcasts, the Gilmor Gang etc. etc etc. It's fun ;-))).

It turns out that Python can be put to good use with an iPod. Check out this site where a Pythonista has coded some cool python scripts for the iPod that automatically download all the baseball scores and statistics each day from the major leagues and stores them in the iPod's contacts lists! It's interesting and fun, and think of the other possibilities. I hope to try some scripts of my own soon.

Oh yeah, and I want to do my own podcasts soon, too ;-)))...

Podcasts, iPods, and Podcasting

I got an iPod yesterday, a 30G photo iPod. I like it. I am now immersed in podcasts, podcasting, and all things iPod. You will find a lot of links about using Python on an iPod on my Python for Mobile Devices page, and probably a lot more will be written here in my blog in coming days and weeks. I have a feeling I may be creating a podcast or two. Meanwhile, if you want to learn about podcasting, I highly recommend this start page Podcast411 which has given me a good start and which is run by a good friend of mine.
