ECHOES by c.l.bracy-jacobs

You stand on the opposite shore--

the rock beneath your feet

firmly unshaken,

slippery and cracked.

Tenebrous waters buffet betwixt us,

slapping the sands on which I stand

shifting the granules,

soft and gushy between my toes.

The bridge uniting our two souls

stands shakily against the darkly whispering skies.

On the memories of a more pacific era,

I gather strength to trek across yet again,

to converse in a language I only dimly recall.
